Analysis of the extract from out of the blue by Simon Armitage

This poem has a deep sense of pathos and dramatic irony, for example in previous stanzas it is mentioned that the main character has died, as evidenced by the quote ” All lost in dust “. Also as this is a famous real world event that many people already know the outcome of, the mentioning of the outcome doesn’t play as big a role as the existing knowledge of the reader. Also the first person perspective of the poem makes people feel empathy towards the main character, this is furthered by the fact that the reader already knows the outcome, but cannot do anything about, this is purposefully done by the author to instil the desired emotion into the reader
