Of mice and men assessment practice paragraph

“You’re all scared of each other thats what.” This quote from Curley’s wife clearly demonstrates the key theme of isolation articulated by the author John Steinbeck. Isolation is one of the main themes in Of Mice And Men, this is demonstrated almost instantly as the book starts, the town that George and Lenny are going to so they can get a job is named Soledad, which when translated from spanish to english it becomes solitude. Steinbeck almost instantly sets the layout for the story and the ideas that will be presented throughout the book by literally sending his main characters to loneliness.

This is a good start. It races through the ideas, which leaves you unable to fully develop each of them fully.

For example, the setting, Soledad: You could start with the reference to the name, and then move on to some of the physical descriptions of it – then you could talk about the itinerant workers of the 1930s and how they had to move from farm to farm. This would be a sophisticated approach because instead of separating “language”, “setting” and “historical context” into separate categories, you’re instead exploring them in a natural and integrated way.

    Does this make sense?

    Let me know.
